Cosmetics Unmasked - Labels and Legal Matters

Although this chapter comes at the end of the first section of the book, it is perhaps the most important. It's all very well knowing about the adverse effects of individual cosmetic ingredients and how they work, but this is of little use if you do not know how to interpret the label and read between the lines. This chapter explains the law relating to the labelling of cosmetics and toiletries, including the names that must be used for ingredients and how they must be listed. It also points out some legal loopholes that a number of manufacturers eagerly exploit. The regulations relating to cosmetic labelling are remarkably similar on both sides of the Atlantic and therefore, this chapter applies equally to products sold in any EU country or the USA.
