Cosmetics Unmasked - Hair Care

The labels on shampoos and conditioners make some pretty amazing claims. If they work as advertised, then why do so many people have bad hair days? Of course, the answer is that they do not live up to all these claims and, while they may be good at cleaning and conditioning your hair, they may also be contributing to your bad hair day. To understand how shampoos and conditioners work, you really need to know a little about hair biology. So this chapter guides you through the science of hair and then looks at dandruff and dandruff treatments, shampoos and conditioners. It then delves into the realm of the salons and hairdressers by looking at hair dyes, perms and hair straighteners. Of all the hazardous chemicals discussed in this book, those used in some hair dye formulations are perhaps the most dangerous of all and one section of this chapter looks specifically at the link between hair dyes and cancer.
